Oil Pulling: Ayervedic treatment for health

Oil Pulling is an ayervedic treatment of pulling approx. 1tbsp of oil (I use sesame seed oil & have used coconut oil in the past).  I personally like sesame seed oil because it starts out golden brown in color and after chomping or swishing or pulling the oil back and forth through my teeth and around my mouth, after about 10-20 mins. When I spit out the used oil, it is white and frothy (I like the color change). I must tell you that oil pulling is a wonderful at-home treatment that will yield very positive results if done consistently.  Even periodic usage has its benefits.

Oil pulling is a wonderful way to pull out toxins from every part of the body in addition to ridding the mouth of bacteria.  The claims that champion the use of oil pulling as a daily regimen range from stronger, whiter teeth, repairing receding gum lines, softening plaque build-up for easy cleaning and removal.  Also is reported by those who practice the oil pulling technique in testimonials to claim that joint pain (including arthritis), skin complexions & hair conditions improve, asthma, blood pressure, diabetes (blood sugar levels) are improved!  This almost sounds too good to be true but, I myself, found it too tempting so I had to at least give it a try. 

I have read about oil pulling a number of years ago and even tried it for a period of time but, I did not do it consistently in the least bit.  I have resumed the practice and see many positive benefits personally and with my clients that choose to incorporate the practice into their daily routine. If you do your own personal search on oil pulling, you will find hundreds, upon hundreds of testimonials in regard to this practice.  One client of mine remarked how her dental appointment for semi-annual cleaning was much easier and a very short visit.  Her dental hygienist couldn't help but, to remark in awe at how easily the plaque and tartar removed from her teeth near her gum line.  She had only been oil pulling for a couple of weeks!

How it works:  Toxins find their home in the body fat.  Fat and toxins seems to have an affinity for one another.  It makes sense that the oil is able to pull out and collect the toxins that are hidden in the body.  Also take note that the tongue has different meridians that correspond to differing areas of the body.  As you pull the oil through your teeth and around your tongue, the blood is circulating many, many times around throughout the body.  Bit, by bit the oil is pulling the toxins out from various places in the body to be removed by the oil and saliva in your mouth.  Aim for 10-20 minutes of oil pulling first thing in the morning after your initial glass of water.  It is best to do this on an empty stomach.  Take care to not swallow the oil but, to spit it out.  You do not want to swallow the used oil that is now full of toxins
